I did exactly the same Dick - my PC hard drive was making the "click of death" noise, so I bought Acronis online, rushed out to buy a new drive, and used it to clone it.
Worked perfectly, just swapped the drives and it was as if nothing had happened.
The drive failed completely the next day as I was erasing it for RMA, so it was a narrow escape!
