Default A first for the Whirlpool Galaxy

In the 42 years of photography, I must have taken a photo/image if the whirlpool galaxy about 25 times with different films, telescopes, and ccd cameras. Everything I aimed the telescope and took the image. This is the first time I did not do that because ACP Scheduler knew when to take it. enjoy.

Dean, this is another spectacular image!

Astronomy photography has come a long way in the last decade. And today it's possible as you implied to take pictures that couldn't be taken by the largest telescopes 40 years ago. This image of M51 is outstanding. It reminds me of similar ones taken by R Jay GaBany for his explorations of the outermost reaches of interacting galaxies. (Example: http://www.cosmotography.com/images/...y-ngc4651.html)

Did you capture this image from a Kitt Peak telescope or from your Deep Sky Remote Observatory?
