Windows 7 Pro, 4Gb min RAM, drive as big as you need to save your acquired images (the software can fit inside a couple of Gb).

Win7, i3 Dual Core at 2.7 GHz, 1 TB drive, 8 GB memory. The last one I bought on EBay: $100, and it came with a video card and a .5 TB drive that I can sell for about $50 on EBay. So I'll be out the door for fifty bucks with a very nice spare computer. I use the exact same make and model so I can swap the computers and all the drivers work when I swap the drive. Two in service, two spares!
When the motherboard smoked in the last machine to fail, I was sure to absolutely STRIP the machine for spare parts before I tossed it out. Memory. Power Supply. DVD burner. Hard drive. Fans. Cable harnesses. You name it.
Best,
Rob
