Default [Now Standard in ACP] AAVSO charts for the web interface

NOTICE: This feature is now a standard part of the ACP web interface. Thank you Dick for this great tool!

    All,

If you are into variable star observations, here's a tiddler you can add to ACP to get variable star charts from an AAVSO server. There are five files attached. The ReadMeFirst describes how to assemble this utility.

This utility accepts only the "conventional" variable star names, such as RR Lyr, V335 Her, ... . Arabic names (e.g. Algol) or Bayer designations (e.g. alpha Centauri) will fail. Here's a nice little description of how variable stars are named, in case you're interested: http://www.britastro.org/vss/nomencl.html

If you have trouble, please let me know.

Just a brief note to say the chart utility is posted in the thread above:

Dick, this is fabulous!! These add ons are getting numerous. I'm going to give some thought to a way to automate the installation of add-on tiddlers. I failed to sufficiently hide the name 'tiddler' ha ha. Anyway, the IMPI tool combined with a simple installer like the one that ASCOM uses for their drivers... I'll give this some thought in my copious spare time ...

Thanks, Bob. As you saw, I found a satisfactory way to erase the tiddler, so I erased the original "quick question" too.

Do you actually have to sleep? You would be so much more productive if you didn't. I'm still astonished that after all these years you can still keep up with everything. ACP (not so much) and ACPS have become so much more intricate. Its' good that you have a great tracking system to support your maintenance.

Happy New Year to you and Stevie.

Thank you Dick... The tracking system turned out to be a total lifesaver. Being able to see the change history of every code module (and there are so many!) has saved my countless hours trying to solve problems. The other part of this is that I took the time to engineering the system and programs in a way that the architecture and code is modular, heavily commented, and adjustable/extensible. This greatly reduced the effort needed to evolve the programs going forward.

Anyway I really appreciate your kind words...

Installing of that tiddler was really easy, just following your installation notes and voila... :-)
    Big thumbs up and thanks!

    All,

I've updated this application a bit to include the AAVSO's "CCDTable" that provides photometric magnitudes where available. If you've installed this tiddler/.asp file from before, all you have to do is delete the ".txt" suffix of this new file and replace your existing aaavso.asp file with this one. New users can follow the directions above and use this replacement file instead of the one above.

I made the background color the blue color it is in keeping with my own page template styles. If that color doesn't suit you, you can always edit the new .asp file (URL2 section) at the bottom and change the <style> background-color to something else.

    See attached thumbnail example.
