I want to post this web-GUI tool to complement what Jonas has provided in terms of seeing where you are in the sky. You'll have to do a little "tiddler" construction to set up this tool. That's explained in the Authoring help files. The instructions and all the parts for this item are in the attached zip file.
If the telescope is connected and running, then using the catalog named in the ACP Preferences/PinPoint tab, this item displays the star field at the location where the telescope says it is aiming. If the telescope is not connected, then this item displays the star field at the default location RA = 0, Dec = 0. No user input is needed. I've only provided for a 30' x 30' field of view (North up, East left), and this is the difference from the all sky view that Jonas has created.
As I mentioned, the image generated is based on the catalog you've selected. In this way it's much like the image you get when running ACP with MaxIm in the simulation mode. I'm trying to add the ability to click on a star in the generated image to pop up the RA, Dec and magnitude retrieved from the catalog. Because of the way I built this simple tool, that's a more challenging task. It's not ready (and may never be ready!).
