Hi Bob and All FMax Experts:

The weather cleared, and I was able to begin sending simple scripts to ACP. I started by characterizing my FMax system (I'm new to FMax as I had been using CCDSoft and @Focus). I generated V-Curves with the startup wizard program, and achieved excellent focus. I then completed the startup process with Maxim, and began sending simple scripts to ACP. I acquired single images, and then went on to acquire a series of up to 6 images. All went perfectly and were very nicely focused.

However, I got bogged down when I tried to AutoFocus through ACP. I set up the AcquireStar parameters and catalogs, and FMax has no problem identifying appropriate focus stars. However, it kept failing to focus. It would slew to the stars, try up to 3 (the limit that I set), and indicate that it failed to achieve focus. I noticed in the log that FMax indicated the stars were too bright, so I lowered the range of acceptable AcquireStar stars from 7.5 to 8.5.

When the stars were too bright, here is the message I got:

When I tried the dimmer stars (7.5 to 8.5) here was the last error message:

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has some ideas as to why the AcquireStar sequence is not completing. Below, please find my log. I'm also sending this same message to the FMax Yahoo forum.
