I'm about to go off to New Mexico to set up my remote observatory. Unfortunately, electricity won't be there yet--I'll have to lease or buy a generator to use this trip, and let the builder turn on electricity when the power company finally connects to this and several adjacent observatories. Also, when I eventually have electricity, I hope to have a UPS with enough capacity to close the roof in case of power failure. So, two questions:

Any idea how much generator capacity (including motor surge capacity--the hard part for me to guess) I'll need to open the roof on this trip? Assume a half-horsepower motor in the garage-door-opener-style roof motor. And basicically the same for the UPS--what rating to allow it to operage a 1/2-hp garage door opener motor?
