    Question Tycho 2 cataloge

    Hi

I want to do some tests with the Tycho 2 catalog but i cant find a version that works with my pinpoint.

Bobs post about how to get the catalogs is outdated. the link below doesn't work anymore.

Anyone know how i can get a working copy?

    Tycho-2

Available from the official Tycho-2 home via FTP from http://www.astro.ku.dk/~cf/CD/. Copy all of the files in this directory as well as all subdirectories, preserving the subdirectory structure exactly, to a directory on your system or to a CD-ROM at the root. Set your catalog type to Tycho-2. Set your catalog path to the directory into which you copied the tree from the Tycho-2 home page. __________________

    Hi,

Here are three links that will hopefully help you:

    Catalog "readme":
    http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?cat=I%2F259&

Catalog information and links to download. When you get to this page, click on the "FTP" or "Browse" tabs to access the individual catalog parts for downloading via FTP. You may have some reorganizing to do, too:

    Interesting article:

    Dick --

Thanks for helping Robert. Downloading isn't so simple so I have put up a copy of the Tycho-2 catalog at http://tycho2.dc3.com/ and updated the article Downloading and Using PinPoint Reference Catalogs.

    One question.

How big is the catalog.dat file. I looks like it is over 500 MB but two times now the file transfer i did end at 110MB.

And you can see the sizes by reading the README file on the server :-) THe other thing you'll leran in the README file is that the directory structure must be preserved like it was on the CD. The catalog files must be in a 'data' sub-folder!

I could get the full file at the 3rd try. PinPoint works fine now with Tycho2. Thanks.
