Talking Doing a DC-3 Video: Would like to use some of your images

    Hi all --

I'm doing a short "promo" video for use in the AIC booth, and would like to use a few of the images posted here (or any others you'd like to submit). I will display credits for the images within the video. I only need a half dozen or so, therefore I can't promise which ones I'll end up using :-)

If you'd like your image(s) to be in the video, I need permission. Also, if you have an unposted image that you'd like to submit, post it here and include video permission.

Thanks in advance, and I'm looking forward to seeing some of you next week!!

    Hi Bob,

Here are my offerings. You have my permission to use them in your promotional video. All of these are taken with my Meade 12-inch operating at about f/5.5, using ACP for aiming and centering, autoguiding (where appropriate) and camera control. I understand you might not use any of these.

    M42_Mosaic+.jpg
(17 Nov 2007) In this picture of the Orion Nebula complex, I've made a first attempt at making a large mosaic from individual images. There are nine images of 45 seconds each, and they were taken one after the other, using ACP to center the overlapping segment. The whole field of view is 43' x 28', almost three times the size of an individual image. A picture of the full moon would fit in this space. All images were taken at an original image scale of 1.27 arcsec per pixel.
The images have been correctly calibrated and carefully mosaicked using MaxIm. The seams between the images have all but disappeared, and the contrast across the whole image has been adjusted to bring out details in both the low-light regions and the bright regions.

    New M42.jpg
(18 January 2010) Compare this with the previous image. I took this 5 minute exposure of M42, and M43 to the north, by remote control at the Reynold's Meehan Observatory, located in San Pedro de Atacama, in Chile. The observatory is at ~2,450 meters elevation. The telescope was a 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain, with a 6 Mpx one-shot color camera attached. In the very center would be the Trapezium. The field of view covers about 2 x 1½ degrees. It would takes 64 images from my telescope at home to cover the same area. The original image scale is 2.38 arcsec per pixel.

    IC1396a.png
(18 Sep 2007) Called the "Elephant Trunk Nebula," this stellar nursery in the constellation of Cepheus is located just over 2700 light-years from Earth. The whole region, of which this is less than a hundreth part, spans an area in the sky six times the size of the moon. The "trunk" seen here is about 10 light-years long. The area includes hot, ionized hydrogen regions (bright curved edges) behind dark lanes of denser hydrogen gas, and reflection nebulae near the brightest stars. 164 unfiltered images were processed and stacked, for a total exposure of 2h 16m. The original image scale is 1.27 arcsec per pixel.

    NGC772.jpg
(1 November 2008) This 158-minute exposure of NGC 772 was composited from 19 500-second exposures. The image scale in the original image is 1.14 arcsec per pixel. NGC 772 is about twice the size of the Milky Way Galaxy, located in the constellation of Aries at a distance of approximately 130 million light years. This galaxy is also known as #78 in Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies. A smaller companion elliptical galaxy, NGC 770 is seen to the southwest. In space, it's only a mere 160,000 light years from NGC 772.

I have an animated (.gif) video of DQ Herculis going through eclipse over a period of three hours, but it's 6MB and too big to include here. You can see it on my website (.../photos) if you scroll down to the date 10 Jun 2007. You can copy it from there, along wtih the caption, if you like.

    Good luck.

    Bob,

    How about these:

M13 (LRGB), M27 (Narrowband), M51 (LRGB), Sword of Orion (Narrowband).

These were all captured with ACP. Instruments were AT111EDT triplet refractor, FLI ML8300 camera.

Data reduction was in MaximDL, all other processing was in PixInsight.

Each is quite a few hours of integration time.

You have permission to use the attached images in promotional materials, including videos.
