    Default Ngc 6946

    A couple of clear nights this week allowed me to do the luminance for 2 targets: NGC 6946 and M 33. Tonight I'm gathering some color data for both. I've dome some processing on NGC 6946.

    L = 41 x 10 min, or almost 7 hrs.

    I've left this image totally uncropped just to show how good the alignment was over 2 nights of imaging and 2 flips, which includes using a rotator.

    I experimented by adding some star spikes in Photoshop Elements via Astronomy Tools v1.6. The issue is on an ST8E (and maybe others) bright stars cause a reflection between the chip surface and the chip cover - causing them to look pretty ugly. I think the star spikes help cover the problem up.

    Hopefully, I'll be able to add the color data soon.

    Added color:

    R,G,B = 16 x 10 min

    Hi Jim,

    Nice ! What type of optical system were you using ? The Luminance looks very deep.

    Jim,

    This is another beautiful image! It's amazing what a few clear nights (a year!) will do, isn't it. You've done a good job adjusting the brighter stars and dealing with the different image sizes of them through each of the color filters. I can't do this.

    I like it.

    Hi Bill,

    Thanks! I'm using a 10" LX200 OTA on an AP1200 mount. The OTA is about 10 years old by now. With my setup and skies, the key for me is gathering lots of data.

    Jim
