Default Upgrade for a (very) old PinPoint licence

    Hello,
I had a licence for PinPoint which expired in 2008 (!).
The software has been uninstalled from my computer, now running Win10 64 bits, as it was not compatible.

I downloaded the V7 trial but cannot install it - the installer complains that my current licence is too old - although the obsolete version is no longer installed.

How should I proceed to have the V7 trial installed ?

    Side questions :
    - is V7 OK with MaxIm V5 ?
    - what is the upgrade price (the web site is not that clear, and sometimes the link points to a non longer existing yahoo site)

    Regards,
    Pierre

    Hello Pierre --

There are several problems here. We don't have a way to do another 60 day trial after you already have the software. We cannot offer upgrades to 15+ year old software. I have no idea whether PinPoint 7 will work with MaxIm 5, it is far too old. I do not test with very old software. It probably does but I don't want to take payment and promise on this. On the other hand your old PinPoint might run OK on Windows 10. What was the problem?

    Hello Bob,

    sure, I understand.

    My old version is V5.
Installation is possible under Win 10 Pro from an admin Powershell window, otherwise I get error 2869.
    But
    - MaxIm still uses the LE version (there is nothing displayed for catalog star in the information window, astrometric mode.
    - Visual PinPoint does not start (error box "PinPoint 6.1.3" saying that the version is over 5 years old).
    - FocusMax V5 shows the same error box in testing for PinPoint in AcquireStar.

BTW, FocusMax is the reason that makes me want to upgrade. I'll probably upgrade MaxIm as well as soon as their latest version has matured a bit.

I made a quick (and dirty) check on another laptop and installed the trial version : no error is raised neither in MaxIm V5.18 nor in FM V5.

So the question : do I have to pay the full licence price or am I eligible for upgrade price ? And will I be able to enter the new licence ?

    Pierre --

We don't offer upgrade discounts beyond 5 years. I don't know if V7 will work with MaxIm 5... it "probably" will. And you're in a "special" condition trying to use FM5 with MaxIm 5 as well. I'm only comfortable with your upgrading to the current version of all of these packages. I hope you understand.

    Hello Bob,

    Understand, of course.

FocusMax V5 is the latest version and runs fine with MaxIm V5.
I am waiting for a feedback from Steve about compatibility with MaxIm V7 - this one is quite new and needs to stabilize a bit probably.
In the meantime, I'll probably set up a test laptop (with MaxIm V5) and see the result.

    Pierre
