Hi,

I'm working with a school to setup a remote observatory and we will be using ACP.

The school IT department are concerned about having PC's in weatherproof boxes mounted under the telescopes. They would like to use an Ethernet to USB/Serial adapter and have the PCs in a remote room that is temperature controlled.

Does anyone have any comments about this approach? I've always found short cables, directly into a PC has the least chance of failure. I was proposing FIT PCs mounted on the pier of the telescope.

One device that has been suggested is:

Does anyone have any experience with these devices - there is one that has 5 USB ports and 4 serial ports that would provide sufficient connectivity.

Thanks,
