Learning to Fly in a real world (maybe)

We have had record monsoon this year so built a flight sim and learning how to fly for real (on the sim) Going through ground school now and learning the art of talking to ATC. WOW, just completed a flight from John Wayne to Palm Springs using Pilot Edge. This is a subscription for flight sim users where you talk to ATC (Air traffic control) and you have to do everything like you were in a real aircraft. I even set my squawk to the freq and they saw me on the runway, in the air and as I approach Palm Springs in which I changed to Palm Springs tower to request clearance to land. It is a lot harder to fly when you have to follow the rules. LOL

Dean, how fun! I have been flying the X-Plane simulator on and off for a few months, juet to keep sharp for the real world. It helps a lot. I haven't used Pilot Edge yet. Right now I'm trying to get my hands going to fly the Dreamfoil Bell 407 helicopter (the same type as I have flown in real life). It's a heck of a lot harder to fly than the real thing. The fixed wing aircraft are also somewhat harder due to the total lack of feel.

If you have the nVidia geForce video card, and the GeForce Experience, you can record video and sound. Much better than the silent recordings from inside X-Plane (for instance). If you get a chance, post a video! Here's one from the other day. I just got this Bell 407 a couple of weeks ago. I'm so hot and cold on the controls. Some days OK, some days not!!

Holy Catfish Dean!!!!! What's really amazing is the multi-engine set of engine controls. Did you build this stuff yourself?

No the controls are Saitek mostly. ForeFlight is great on the IPAD and Pilot Edge is working out great. Still doing VFR in a Skyhawk 172 but doing flight plans and fight following now which is pretty real these days

Yes, I use ForeFlight in the real world, and it "just works" with X-Plane.
